What it is
A baseline assessment is not a test your child can fail
School reports tell you a grade. A baseline assessment tells you the story behind it. We sit with your child, work through age appropriate tasks, and find out what is actually going on.
Where they are now
Short reading, writing and maths tasks pitched at their year group. We look at how they answer, not only whether it is right, so we can see their working level.
What's getting in the way
It is usually one or two specific things: number bonds that never quite bedded in, inference in reading, or nerves that take over the moment a paper appears.
What happens next
You get a summary and a recommended plan. If your child needs specific support to bridge learning gaps, or more challenge to excel, we'll tell you that too.

Questions parents ask us most
What is the ideal age for the baseline assessment?
We typically recommend the assessment for children aged 6 to 16. Typically, the early the better as it gives a more thorough roadmap for their learning journey.
My child gets anxious about tests. Is this a bad idea?
Tell us when you book and we will plan around it. There is no timer, no red pen and no pass mark. Tutors are with your child throughout, and if they need a break or want to stop, that is completely fine. How your child responds to the situation is useful information for us as well. Our environment is designed to be warm, friendly, and completely pressure-free. Most children find the interactive activities engaging rather than stressful.
How long does it take?

Will this assessment impact my child's school performance or predicted grades?
Not at all. Our baseline assessment is designed to compliment the National Curriculum. This is purely a diagnostic tool to uncover strengths and pinpoint areas for growth, allow us to provide targeted support.
Does my child need to prepare or revise beforehand?
No, and please do not let them. A baseline is only useful if it shows us where your child is on an ordinary day. Revision makes the picture less accurate, not more flattering.
Will you push me into signing up?
No. You will get the snapshot and our honest recommendation, and then you go home and think about it. Sometimes our recommendation is that a child does not need tutoring at all, and we say so.
What do I need to bring?
Just yourself and your child. If you have a recent school report, a SEND plan or anything else you think would help us understand the full picture, bring it along, but nothing is essential.
